โฆ Synopsis
A method for designing the speci"cations of a high-e$ciency water pump was developed by focusing on the mechanisms causing hydraulic loss. Fault tree analysis (FTA) was used as a convenient method for examining the factors related to loss. The e!ects of each factor were quanti"ed by multivariate analysis. A water #ow simulation was performed to analyze how these di!erent factors in#uenced hydraulic loss. The loss mechanisms were then veri"ed in experiments conducted with a prototype water pump. With this design method, the hydraulic e$ciency of the water pump can be increased twofold over that of conventional pumps.
