Desmoplastic fibroma of bone is a rare benign tumor, first described by Jaffe in 1958. Since then approximately 80 cases have been reported in the long bones, although the tumor also involves the jaw bones, particularly the mandible. The plain film features consist of a lytic, expansile lesion, usua

β¦ Synopsis
The diagnosis of cortical desmoid in the typical case is easily established using conventional radiography. In atypical cases, the use of computed tomography (CT) may be helpful in diagnosis. We report the use of computed tomography in two patients with cortical desmoids. In one case plain radiographic findings were not diagnostic and the use of CT obviated biopsy. The findings of a desmoid in an atypical location, the insertion site of the medial head of the gastrocnemius tendon, is discussed.

## Abstract The purpose of this study was to determine the minimum thickness of cortical bone required for the accurate measurement of cortical material density by computed tomography (CT) and to establish normal reference values. A phantom with several wall thicknesses of boneβlike material was co
## Abstract It is difficult to assess from conventional xβrays the amount of loading that a bone can tolerate. The question therefore was asked whether the mechanical properties of cortical bone could be estimated by using a computed tomography (CT) system typically employed in the clinical setting
The relevance of Finite-Element models for hip fracture prediction should be increased by the recent subject-specific methods based on computed tomography (CT-scan), regarding the geometry as well as the material properties. The present study focused on the prediction of subject-specific mechanical
Bilateral renal cortical necrosis as a rare form of acute renal failure was encountered in two patients with sepsis and acute renal failure. In both cases contrast-enhanced computed tomography showed characteristic findings: absent specification of the renal cortex and enhancement of subcapsular and
