✦ Synopsis

Computational mathematics

and numerical analysis rely heavily on results from functional analysis. This volume, written in a very readable style concerns itself with the numerical analysis of operator equations. In particular, the analysis of the approximation error of various methods for obtaining approximate solutions to algebraic, linear, nonlinear, differential, integral and other types of equations, is the central theme. One of the novelties is the introduction of the powerful techniques of intercal anabsis which are so useful in obtaining bounds on solutions, particularly for problems in which the data is poorly known. Elegant techniques available in reproducing kernel spaces are also used.

The book fills a gap for students requiring such information as an introduction at the first year graduate level or concentrating on nonlinear equations in the second year. Numerical examples and exercises reinforce the author's presentation.
