✦ Synopsis

New experimental results for the Compton profde of methane are presented. The data obtained by using 59.54 keV Trays from a 241Am source are compared with theoretical calculations and with experimental results obtained from electron scattering. The comparison shows that substantial discrepancies still exist and the validity of the binary encounter approximation in electron spectroscopy is questioned.

The Compton profil: for gaseous NT has been measured using 59.54 keV v-rays from a 2".4m source. The results are found to agree with the earlier experimental dsta and with the theoretical pr&k calculsted from Hartree--Fock wavefunctions. Disagreement belween the expzrimcntal results and the theoreti
