Semipurified lipase of Candida rugosa (CRSL) was subjected to chemical modification, and the activities of the modified lipase, in hydrolysis and esterification reactions, were examined. The esterification reactions were carried out in the absence and presence of isooctane. When the enzyme was modif

✦ Synopsis
A semipuriied lipaw of Candida cylindmdea (2.S) -easily obtainedfrom commercial crude lipase (LC)-is used in rhe enantiosekctive hydrolysis of (R,S) 2-arylpropionates. Ihe semipurification treatmen diminishu the lipase adwhy more than the &erase activity. i'he aaiiition of lactose (24 h) increases both activitks. LS is more active than LC -at the same amount of protein-in the hydrolysis of (R,S) Z-a19 propionates. lhis semipuriJcation showed a remarkabk bnprovement in yieki in the enamioespecific hydrolysis of these esters.
