It is well known that many ESL learners, both immigrants and people who are in the United States for only a limited period of time, are primarily interested in studying English to strengthen their competitive edge in the job market. Pu blishing compani es have responded by developing textbooks specially geared to t his type of st ud e n t . Following are short reviews of 10 recent textbooks, including three comparative charts (that give a synopsis of the features of each book, such as • "Activities Included" (Chart 1)-the comparative number of exercises addressing the language skills: listening, speaking, vocabulary, reading, writing, and grammar • "Accessories" (Chart 2)-the availability of audiotapes, tape transcripts, a teacher's manual, additional workbook, illustrations (black and white and/or color), charts, and an answer key • "Business Issues Addressed" (Charts 3A and 3B)-the major professional competencies and functions treated: business meetings and presentations; cultural diversity; customer/client service; decision making; and giving/receiving advice, complaints, information, and instructions; money issues; negotiation; safety; tact; team participation; technology; telephone procedures; time management; and travel
