Abstract
A novel compact triple‐band antenna with rectangular ring for wireless local area network and worldwide interoperability for microwave access applications is proposed. The antenna is simply composed of a rectangular ring, a pair of symmetrical L‐shaped strips, and a T‐shaped monopole. Dual‐band characteristic can be produced by the pair of L‐shaped strips and T‐shaped monopole. By extending the rectangular ring from the ground plane, a new resonant frequency is obtained. Based on this concept, a prototype of this triple‐band antenna has been designed, fabricated, and measured. The experimental results show that the antenna covers the frequency bands 2.34–2.74, 3.04–3.82, and 5.03–6.05 GHz with −10 dB return loss. Moreover, good omnidirectional radiation patterns and reasonable gains are also obtained. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
