We read with great interest the editorial by Wagner and Wegman, published in your journal recently .

Contrary to what is generally accepted for medical purposes, as summarized elsewhere , the authors proposed including in the definition of occupational asthma ''preexisting asthma exacerbated by workplace environmental exposures.''

We thank Drs. Malo and Chan-Yeung for illustrating, in greater detail, the fact that different definitions of occupational asthma serve different purposes. Clearly, some of the definitions reflect differences in local legal frameworks, and it is unlikely that any single definition will apply univers
