An expression is derived for the increase in the Gibbs' free energy which arises from the mixing of a total amount of 1 mole of the components of a binary system. The six constants of this expression are calculated for the gold-platinum system from experimental data. A comparison of this expression

## Abstract Gold‐10% platinum alloys with additions of minor amounts of iron exhibits age hardening characteristics. Maximum hardness and maximum hardening rate occurred in gold‐10% platinum alloys containing 0.16 wt% iron. Electron microscopy techniques employing replicas of Au‐Pt‐Fe alloys reveal
