✦ Synopsis
Abstract
Gold‐10% platinum alloys with additions of minor amounts of iron exhibits age hardening characteristics. Maximum hardness and maximum hardening rate occurred in gold‐10% platinum alloys containing 0.16 wt% iron. Electron microscopy techniques employing replicas of Au‐Pt‐Fe alloys revealed intragranular and intergranular precipitation phenomena occured in the overaged condition. Electron diffraction and x‐ray diffraction methods showed the intergranular phase to be an ordered face‐centered cubic structure.
