✦ Synopsis

The optical emission spectra between 190 and 680 nm of 8 keV 0;. and CO:' collisions with He and N, target gases were obtained and analyzed on a modified commercial VG ZAB-ZF mass spectrometer. Emissions observed were from 0, O', He, N i ' (BZZ:,+ + XzZg+) and N, (C31Z, + B31Zg) in the case of 0;. projectiles and C, CO;. (B2ZY+, A 'nu + X21Z,), CO" ( B 2 Z + + XzZ+), N:' (B'Z,' + X 2 Z g ) and N, (C31Z, + B31Z,) in the case of CO;. projectiles. The results are discussed in relation to previous reports on N;'-target collisions and the collision-induced dissociation mass spectral characteristics of 0; ' and CO;.
