✦ Synopsis

The role of spin coherence in electron-nuclear polarization transfer has been investigated by radio frequency-induced optical nuclear polarization. Time-resolved measurements on doped molecular crystals show transient oscillations with two different frequencies corresponding to an electron spin nutation around the rf field and a nuclear spin precession around the static field. All characteristic features of these oscillatory transfer processes are described by a simple quantum dynamical treatment without employing thermodynamical concepts.
