Type 2 diabetes mellitus increases risks of dementia (Allen et al., 2004). This association has not been investigated in the developing world. Morbidity and mortality from complications of type 2 diabetes are high in elderly Sri Lankan patients (Fernando et al., 1992). The prevalence of dementia in
