Cidofovir is a cytidine nucleotide analogue recently licensed as an intravenous treatment for CMV retinitis in AIDS patients. Three controlled clinical trials have demonstrated efficacy of cidofovir for this indication, and have generated data useful as a guideline to prevent potential toxicity. Alt
