✦ Synopsis
Treatment with interferon-␣ (IFN-␣) has been associated with the occurrence of a number of autoimmune disorders. We report a case of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) occurring in a patient with a chronic viral hepatitis C infection who received a novel, longacting form of IFN-␣. After withdrawal of the interferon treatment, this patient responded to a single extended course of plasma exchange that resulted in a complete clinical remission of symptoms without relapse.

## Abstract Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy is an immune‐mediated demyelinating peripheral neuropathy usually treated with immunosuppressants. We reviewed our experience treating 15 patients (9 men, 6 women) with intravenous immunoglobulin. Six patients were on other therapies at
Two patients with chronic-phase chronic granulocytic leukemia initially responded to recombinant interferon a-2a (rlFN-a-2a) but relapsed as a result of development of hightiter neutralizing antibodies to rlFN-a-Sa. Both patients were subsequently treated with natural leukocyte IFN-(Y (IFN-a-n3), an
The maculopapular rash recurred in December 1990, associated with fever, severe arthralgias, and headaches. Alpha-interferon was discontinued out of concern that it may be exacerbating the patient's condition. She was admitted to the University of Chicago in January 1991 for evaluation of worsening
The mechanisms by which type I interferons (IFN) reduce the rate and severity of exacerbations in multiple sclerosis are unknown. We utilized a model of multiple sclerosis to determine the extent of demyelination and remyelination in Theiler's murine encephalomyelitis virus (TMEV)infected SJL/J mice
