Synthesis of Phosphocarnitine.

-The reaction of (R)-epichlorohydrin (I) with phosphite (II) gives the phosphonic ester (III). The latter is transformed into the optically active phosphocarnitine salt (VII) by dealkylation, replacement of chloride with trimethylamine and ion exchange with potassium carbonate.
