✦ Synopsis
Synthesis of Nonracemic β-Hydroxy Ketones and Carbonate Derivatives from Homopropargylic Alcohols Through Iodolactonization.
-In connection with studies on the synthesis of polyketide natural products, the transformation of homopropargylic alcohols into β-hydroxy ketones is investigated. The reaction sequence developed consists of an iodolactonization immediately followed by reduction and subsequent hydrolysis or alcoholysis. This opens a new route towards polyketides using the title transformation as a linker between the allenylmetal and the aldol approach. -(MARSHALL,
