Synthesis of La 1-x Fe x VO 4 Solid Solutions and Their Photocatalytic Activity. -Nanocrystalline title solid solutions (x = 0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.20) are prepared by precipitation from aqueous solutions of NaVO3, La(NO3)3, and Fe(NO3)3 with NH3 followed by calcination of a mixture of the precipitate and LiNO3 (alumina crucible, 450 ยฐC, 6 h). The samples are characterized by powder XRD and TEM. With increasing x a gradual phase transformation from monoclinic to tetragonal occurs which is accompanied by morphology changes of the particles from nearly spherical to nanorods and nanosheets. The metastable tetragonal phase exhibits higher photocatalytic activity for degradation of aqueous Rhodamine B solutions under UV irradiation than the monoclinic phase.
