✦ Synopsis
Synthesis and Structure of La(HSeO 3 )(SeO 4 )•2H 2 O. -Single crystals of the title compound representing a new mixed valence selenite/selenate are prepared in low yield within several months from an aqueous solution of La(NO 3 ) 3 , Co(NO 3 ) 2 , and SeO 2 . La(HSeO 3 )(SeO 4 )•2H 2 O (monoclinic, P2 1 /n, Z = 4) crystallizes in a new structure type. The structure is built-up from 9-coordinate La 3+ cations, pyramidal HSeO 3 , and tetrahedral SeO 4 groups sharing vertices and edges. Chains of LaO 9 and SeO 3 polyhedra connected through La-O-Se and La-O-La bonds are crosslinked by Se atoms (as SeO 4 groups) to form a three-dimensional framework. -(HARRISON, W. T. A.;
