Synthesis and Reactions of 4H-3,1-Benzothiazines.

-The target compound of this study is the pyrrolo[1,2-a]indole skeleton which is the essential ring system of the active antitumor mitomycins. Although the synthesis of this ring system fails, a number of novel heterocycles is obtained affording new methods for generating benzothiazine, e.g. (III), indole, e.g. (V), quinoline (IX), and benzoxazine, e.g. (XVI), compounds. -(EL-DESOKY, S.
