Synthesis and Crystal Structure of Rb 6 Pb 5 Cl 16 .

-The hitherto unknown 6:5 phase of title is prepared by reaction of appropriate amounts of RbCl and PbCl 2 (sealed silica tube, 1. 500 โ€ข C, 0.5 h, 2. 335 โ€ข C, several weeks).

Rb 6 Pb 5 Cl 16 crystallizes in the tetragonal space group P4/mbm (powder synchrotron XRD). A special feature of the structure is the statistical distribution of Rb and Pb at one of the cation sites with a ratio of 1:3 as defined by electroneutrality. -(BECK, H.
