-The conversion of carbonyl compounds (I) to the corresponding acetals/ketals (III) or dioxolanes (V) is readily achieved by neat KSF clay or PTSA-catalyzed microwave irradiation in the presence of orthoformates, 1,2-ethanediol, or the dioxolane (VI). -(
