Ring-Closing Metathesis in Methanol and Water. -Using watersoluble ruthenium alkylidene catalysts (I) or (II) a ring-closing metathesis of acyclic dienes can be achieved in protic solvents such as methanol (or water). Generally, better results are obtained with catalyst (I). Ξ±,Ο-Unsubstituted diene
