β¦ Synopsis
Reactions of Polyhalopyridines.
Part 14. Reaction of Isomeric Tetrachlorocyanopyridines and Pentachloropyridine with Potassium Ethyl Xanthogenate.
-Tetrachloro-2-cyanopyridine (I) reacts with xanthogenate (II) to provide the 4-mono-and 3,4-bis(xanthogenate) derivatives (III) and (IV), respectively. The latter one undergoes intramolecular cyclization in the presence of excess xanthogenate furnishing 1,3-dithiolopyridine systems (V) and (VI). The isomeric tetrachlorocyanopyridines (VII), (X) and the pentachloropyridine (XIII) react with xanthogenate (II) to give the expected monoand disubstituted derivatives but no cyclized products. In some cases, these substitution reactions are accompanied by extrusion of COS providing sulfide derivatives [cf. (VIII), (IX), (XV)]. -(SIPYAGIN, A.
