Synthesis of Tetrayne-Linked Dehydrobenzoannulenes.
-Addition of potassium carbonate to standard Eglinton oxidative dimerization conditions for silyl acetylenes (I) results in a one-pot desilylation/dimerization reaction. Application of these conditions to phenylbutadiynylsilanes (III) provide an entry to the macrocycles (V) possessing an unprecedented number of acetylene linkers.
