New Uranium Chalcoantimonates, RbU 2 SbS 8 and KU 2 SbSe 8 , with a Polar Noncentrosymmetric Structure.
-Single crystals of the new title compounds are obtained by the polychalcogenide molten flux method. RbU 2 SbS 8 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group Cm with Z = 2. The compound has a two-dimensional character with layers running perpendicular to the c-axis. The coordination geometry around U 4+ is best described as a bicapped trigonal prism. KU 2 SbSe 8 crystallizes in space group Cm with Z = 4 and has essentially the same structure as RbU 2 SbS 8 . The latter is a semiconductor with a band gap of 1.38 eV.
