The title reaction affords two isomers of new cyclohexenes like (III) via a diastereoselective double Michael addition in the presence of a catalytic amount of piperidine. A stoichiometric amount of piperidine promotes the demethoxycarbonylation of compounds (III) to hexenes such as (IV). -
