New Practical Oxidation of 1,2-Diarylethenes and 1,2-Diaryl-1,2dibromoethanes to 1,2-Diaryl Diketones Using Reagents Based on Sulfuric Acid.
-A new synthetic way to 1,2-diaryl diketones such as (II) and (IV) by oxidation of 1,2-diarylethenes in sulfuric acid-acetic acid solutions containing halogens, hydrohalogenic acids or their salts is presented. The reaction is proposed to proceed via the corresponding dihalogenated compounds like (V) which indeed are shown to oxidize into the diketones (IV) in hot sulfuric-acetic acid. -(KRASNOKUTSKAYA, E.
