Two new members of the (A 3 ZnMnO 6 ) α (A 3 Mn 3 O 9 ) β one-dimensional homologous series have been synthesised with the compositions Sr 4 Mn 2 ZnO 9 and Ba 5 Mn 3 ZnO 12 . Their structures can be described as a hexagonal array of infinite 1Dchain polyhedra, running parallel to the c-axis, formed
