β¦ Synopsis
Layered Iron(III) Arsenates: Synthesis and Characterization of M2Fe2O( AsO4)2 (M: K, Rb).
-Red crystals of the title compounds are prepared by reaction of MH2AsO4 (M: K, Rb) and Fe2O3 at 700-800 β’ C and characterized by single-crystal XRD, Moessbauer spectroscopy, and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The isostructural compounds (orthorhombic, Pnma, Z = 4) are built-up from slabs of edge-sharing FeO6 octahedra which are linked by AsO4 tetrahedra forming a layer structure with alkali metal cations in the interlayer space. In the compounds iron exists in the three-valent state only. Susceptibility measurements for Rb2Fe2O(AsO4)2 show a transition to weak ferromagnetism near 25 K.

The two compounds are isostructural and crystallize in the orthorho
