Influence of the Nature of the Lewis Acid on the Rearrangement of 1-Phenyl-7-oxanorbornadiene Derivatives.

-The course of the highly selective rearrangements of the 1-aryl-7-oxanorbornadienes (I) depends exclusively on the nature of the zinc halide used. Zinc iodide gives the 6-hydroxyfulvenes (II), whereas zinc bromide yields the 4-arylphenols (III). -
