Identification of S 2 O 4 in Sulfur Dioxide Solutions in HMPA.

-UV/VIS spectrophotometry of SO 2 /hexamethylphosphoramide solutions show that SO 2 is in equilibrium with the dimer species S 2 O 4 . The equilibrium constant for the dissociation of S 2 O 4 is determined to be 1.3β€’10 -2 mol/l. The cyclic voltammogram shows the S 2 O 4 reduction as a prewave about 150 mV before that of SO 2 .
