Hydrogenation of the Carbonyl Group in α-Ketoesters and α-Ketoamides Catalyzed by Ruthenium Clay.
-The ruthenium clay, prepared from montmorillonite K10, (3-chloropropyl)trimethoxysilane, KPPh 2 , and RuCl 3 •H 2 O (0.13 to 0.17 mmol Ru/g clay) catalyzes effectively the reduction of the α-carbonyl group of ketoesters and ketoamides to give the corresponding hydroxyesters and -amides in 80-89% isolated yields. -
