✦ Synopsis

Heterogeneous Interconversion Reactions of BrNO 2 , ClNO 2 , Br 2 and Cl 2 .

-The activation energy E A = 89 kJ/mol for the unimolecular decay of BrNO 2 at atmospheric pressure is estimated from the measurement of the temperature-dependent lifetime. The reactive uptake of BrNO 2 and ClNO 2 on water and aqueous solutions is determined. The reactions Br 2 + NO -2 ↔ BrNO 2 + Br -, Cl 2 + NO -2 β†’ ClNO 2 + Cl -and ClNO 2 + Br - ↔ BrNO 2 + Cl -are observed. Formation and loss of BrNO 2 on salt solutions can be investigated as a model substrate for atmospheric sea salt aerosols. -
