✦ Synopsis

Reaction of AgOCN with NO, NO2, ClNO2, ClNO, and BrNO: Evidence of the Formation of OCN-NO2 and OCN-NO. -The reactions of title are studied by gas phase IR spectroscopy. The decomposition products observed in the reactions of AgOCN with NO2 and with ClNO2 are compatible with the formation of an intermediate OCN-NO2 molecule which decomposes into CO2 and N2O. The reaction of XNO (X: Cl, Br) and AgOCN is much more complex and X-CN and X(CO)NCO are observed as long-lived intermediates. A reaction mechanism that involves the formation of OCN-NO as initial step is proposed.
