Facile

Synthesis of 6-Aryl-1,3-dimethyl-5H-pyrimido[4,5b][1,4]diazepine-2,4(1H,3H)-diones.

-A new approach to the regioselective synthesis of the title compounds (IV) starting from readily accessible 6-amino-5-benzylideneaminopyrimidines (I) is described. Condensation of compound (I) with diethoxymethyl acetate results in the formation of dioxopurin derivative (VI). The structures of (IIIa) and (VI) are unambiguously confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.
