Electrochemical Synthesis of Isocyanides and 1,n-Diisocyanides. -Electrolysis of tosylmethylisocyanides (I) and (III) gives the new alkyl-, aryl-, and 1,n-diisocyanides (II) and (IV) in high purity and in moderate to good yields. The reaction proceeds in a two-electron C,S cleavage, reducing exclusively the tosyl function. Quantum-chemical calculations confirm the high selectivity of the ECE-mechanism.
