Diastereoselective Synthesis of Polypropionates: Cationic Couplings of 4-Acetoxy-1,3-dioxanes with Crotyl-Metal Reagents.

-Cationic couplings of 4-acetoxy-1,3-dioxanes with allylic metal reagents are investigated.

The diastereoselectivity shows marked dependence on the Lewis acid, the reactivity of the allylic species, and the stereochemical disposition of a C-5 methyl group. However, a 1,3-syn relationship is generally favored. -(RYCH-
