Design, Synthesis, and Evaluation of the First Mechanism-Based Inhibitor of Glucosamine 6-Phosphate Synthase. -The first example of the title inhibitor, the compound (I), a glutamine derivative bearing a latent electrophilic function, is prepared starting from suitably protected glutamine. (I) is stable under the conditions of enzyme assay even in the presence of dithiothreitol and is tested on Escherichia coli glucosamine 6-phosphate synthase.
