In contrast to a recent result concerning the reaction of (I) and (II) in the presence of AgOTf a mixture of cyanoglycosylated products such as (IV)-(VII) is obtained. Diastereomers of (VI) and (VII) are also formed as by-products (2-4% yield). The structure of (V) is determined by X-ray analysis. Mechanistical aspects are discussed. -(TOBARI, A.
