Contributions to the Crystal Chemistry of Uranium Tellurides. Part 4. The Crystal Structure of U0.9Te3.
-Reinvestigation of the binary uranium polytelluride described as ". beta.-modification" with the formula UTe3 and an NdTe3-type structure shows, that the brass-colored crystal obtained by transport reaction with TeBr4 is a nonstoichiometric compound. According to XRD, EDX, ICP-OES, and density measurements, it has an average composition of U0. 9Te3, according to the already known phase UTe3.38, and adopts the orthorhombic space group Cmcm with Z = 4. The structure is isotypic with NdTe3, however, with a statistical depletion of the U positions. -(STOEWE, K.; Z.
