Crystal and Magnetic Structure of the Binary Uranium Germanide U 3 Ge 5 .
-The title compound is prepared by arc melting of the elements under reduced pressure followed by annealing at different temperatures (1200-900 β’ C). U 3 Ge 5 crystallizes in the hexagonal AlB 2 type structure (space group P6/mmm, Z = 1) as determined by single crystal XRD. A partial occupation of the germanium site leads to the effective composition UGe 1.57 . Magnetic susceptibility measurements on an annealed polycrystalline sample reveal ferromagnetic ordering below Tc = 94 K. -(BOULET, P.; POTEL, M.;
