✦ Synopsis

Biginelli Reaction Starting Directly from Alcohols. -The efficient one-pot proceeds via [hmim]HSO4-catalyzed oxidation of the alcohols with NaNO3 to aldehydes followed by cyclocondensation with urea and carbonyl compounds (14 examples). The methodology works well with aromatic alcohols, whereas aliphatic ones are unreactive.
