An Efficient Synthesis of (-)-Pestalotin and Its Enantiomer Using Sharpless Asymmetric Dihydroxylation.

-The title compound (IV), a gibberellin synergist isolated from a phytopathogenic fungus Pestaltia cryptomeriaecola, is prepared using Sharpless asymmetric dihydroxylation as the key step. A similar procedure using AD-mix-Ξ² furnishes the enantiomer of (IV) with 95% e.e. -(WANG, Z.-M.;
