A Novel Stereoselective Route to Some Uncommon Amino Acids.
-An efficient synthesis of the D-erythro-Ξ²-methylaspartic acid analogue (VIII) is achieved in six steps. Evans' aldol reaction is utilized followed by Weinreb amide formation and Mitsunobu inversion to achieve the necessary stereochemistry of the amino acid target.
