A Novel One-Pot Reformatsky Type Reaction via Bismuth Salt in Aqueous Media.
-BiCl3-Al is found to be an effective reagent for the Reformatsky-type reaction of Ξ±-bromoketones (I) and various aldehydes to yield the corresponding Ξ²-hydroxy compounds. Similar treatment of 2-bromocyclohexanone (IV) gives the products with considerable diastereoselectivity.
