A Hybrid Electrochemical/Chemical Synthesis of Supported, Luminescent Cadmium Sulfide Nanocrystals.
-The title process for the synthesis of epitaxially oriented CdS nanocrystals on graphite surface proceeds in three steps. The synthesis involves the electrochemical deposition of Cd0 nanocrystals from an aqueous solution of CdF2 and NaF (pH β6.2) into a graphite basal plane surface, oxidation to Cd(OH)2 in the plating solution, and displacement of OH-by S2-in aqueous Na2S solution (pH . apprxeq.10.5). Dispersions of semiconducting CdS of mean diameter 20 to 80 Γ exhibiting strong room-temp. photoluminescence are prepared which are aligned with the hexagonal periodicity of the graphite surface. -(ANDERSON, M.
