A Formal Synthesis of Brassinolide.

-Enantiodifferentiation of the C2-symmetrical tetraol-sulfide (I) by an enzyme-catalyzed acylation and an E-stereoconvergent Ramberg-Baecklund process are key steps in the construction of the side-chain synthon ( IV). Its introduction to the steroid skeleton affords the crinostene derivative (V), a known precursor of the vegetal hormone brassinolide.
