A Direct One-Step Preparation of Triarylverdazylium Salts from the Corresponding Triarylformazans.
-Verdazylium salts such as (III), potential infrared absorbing dyes, are prepared by the reaction of formazanes (I) with formaldehyde and different organic or inorganic acids in a two-phase chloroform/water medium. Subsequent reduction of (III) in the same solvent system with ascorbic acid leads to formation of the corresponding radicals (IV), whereas reduction in methanol gives the leuco-verdazyl (V). -(KATRITZKY,
