β¦ Synopsis
The optical cm&ion resulting from collisicjns between Ct ions and Hq _ gas was measured in the energy range 2 to 20 eVo,m . The observed spectrum consists _zminly of the CH+A ITI -X Ix* band system; CH+(A 'II) is shown to be formed' in the chemiluminescent reaction: 6(*P"j + H2 -+ CH'(A 'II) f H(*S). The energy dependence of the emission cross section was measured. The occurrence of this reaction is d&cussed in terms of an electronic state GOT-reMion diagram for the system.
